Shape your sound before recording
The WA273-EQ gives you detailed control over your tone at the tracking stage. Each channel features a three-band equaliser with selectable frequencies, allowing you to refine low-end weight, midrange presence and top-end clarity before the signal reaches your interface or recorder.
A switchable high-pass filter offers additional control over unwanted low-frequency content, helping create cleaner recordings at the source. By making tonal adjustments during recording, you can spend less time correcting sounds later and focus more on performance and creativity. The EQ can be engaged when needed and bypassed when a completely unprocessed signal is preferred.
Adapt to different microphones and sources
Different microphones react differently to preamp loading, which is why the WA273-EQ includes selectable input impedance settings. Switching between 300 and 1200 ohms changes the interaction between microphone and preamp, helping you find a response that suits the source and microphone combination.
Dynamic, condenser and ribbon microphones can all be connected through the XLR input, while dedicated line and instrument inputs allow keyboards, synthesisers, bass guitars and other sources to be recorded through the same signal path. This flexibility makes the WA273-EQ useful across a wide range of studio applications.
Classic analog circuitry throughout
At the heart of the WA273-EQ are Carnhill transformers positioned throughout the signal path. These transformers contribute to the unit's distinctive analogue character, adding depth and harmonic richness that can help sources sit naturally within a mix.
The preamp also includes a tone control that changes the transformer configuration and input impedance characteristics, offering two different sonic flavours from the same channel. One setting provides a more open and natural response, while the other introduces a more forward and assertive character. This gives you another useful tool for matching the sound to the source being recorded.
Integrates easily with studio hardware
The WA273-EQ is designed to work as part of a larger recording system. Rear-panel insert points make it easy to place external compressors or equalisers directly into the signal path, creating customised recording chains without complicated routing. Balanced XLR and TRS outputs provide straightforward connection to audio interfaces, recorders and mixing equipment.
The unit can also be used as a line-level processor, allowing you to run recorded material back through the analogue circuitry for additional colour and shaping during mixing. Combined with its dual-channel layout, this makes the WA273-EQ a practical centrepiece for recording and production environments.
