Adaptive True Legato automatically adjusts transitions according to playing speed, helping legato passages respond more naturally during performance.
Multiple microphone positions give you control over perspective and room sound, with individual routing, volume, and loading options available through the Mixer Page. The Cell Rack also lets you organise and combine articulations using assignable keyswitches, while the Tuning Scale function provides alternative tuning systems for period scoring and more specialised compositions.

Iconica Sections & Players gives you an extensive collection of strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, and harp for detailed orchestral composition. With up to 190GB of audio samples and as many as 500 articulations, the library provides a broad selection of playing techniques for creating expressive arrangements. Each orchestral section includes multiple articulations with round robins, helping repeated notes retain natural variation. This gives you the flexibility to move between sustained passages, shorter rhythmic parts, and more specialised orchestral techniques while keeping performances detailed and convincing.
Steinberg's Adaptive True Legato system is designed to make connected passages respond naturally to the way you play. Rather than treating every transition identically, it adapts according to the speed of your performance. Play faster and the transitions become shorter to suit quicker passages. At slower speeds, longer transitions help maintain a smoother sense of movement between notes. This adaptive behaviour reduces the amount of manual adjustment required when programming legato lines, making it easier to create expressive melodic parts directly from a MIDI keyboard or controller.
Each instrument was captured using several microphone positions, giving you greater control over the perspective and ambience of your orchestral mix. The different positions can be managed directly through the Mixer Page, where you can adjust their levels and loading status. You can also assign individual outputs to microphone positions for more detailed mixing within your DAW. Blend different perspectives together to control the balance between definition and room ambience, or load only the positions you need for a particular arrangement.
The Cell Rack provides a central location for organising and accessing articulations. It can hold up to 16 loaded articulations within an X/Y grid, allowing you to see both the currently active articulation and the one you have selected.
Each cell can be connected to a keyswitch, with note assignments adjusted to suit your MIDI controller or preferred playing layout. A single keyswitch can also control multiple cells, allowing articulations to be stacked when you want to create more complex combinations. This makes it easier to customise the library around your own composing workflow rather than working with a fixed keyswitch arrangement.
The Tuning Scale function lets you move beyond standard Equal Temperament when a composition requires a different tuning system. You can select alternative scales for creative purposes or when working with music that needs to follow a particular tuning convention.
Tuning can even be changed while a note is being played. This provides additional flexibility when composing period-inspired material, accompanying other instruments with specific tuning requirements, or experimenting with alternative tonal systems.
Iconica was recorded at Funkhaus Berlin in collaboration with Orchestral Tools. The sessions brought together 76 musicians, including 50 string players, to capture the individual instruments and sections required for detailed orchestral writing. Recording took place in Studio 2, a 400m squared room with a ceiling height of approximately 10.5 metres and a reverb time of around 1.5 seconds. Its acoustics provide a controlled sense of space while retaining the detail needed for individual orchestral samples.
The project was recorded over the course of a month, with the instruments captured in their appropriate orchestral positions. This provides a consistent spatial foundation when combining different sections within a composition.
