Future Sound Systems have created an exciting range of Eurorack Modules based around ‘The Greistleizer’, a coveted effects unit used and adapted by Chris Carter of Throbbing Gristle. The Greistleizer is seen as a vital component in the pioneering sound of Throbbing Gristle. This has led to four separate Eurorack modules being created, combining iconic components with modern features, allowing you to develop your own sound.
An key element of the Griestleizer is the JEFT-controlled multi-feedback, band-pass filter. The TG3 puts this filter into a Eurorack module. With similar characteristics to a wah-wah pedal, patching the TG3 various ways will result in a huge variety of tonalities. One way this can be achieved is by summing multiple filters in parallel. Having an input on the TG3 means the module can be controlled by any control source in your current Eurorack setup.
A range of features on the TG3 filter gives you ultimate control of the filters tone. Whilst also featuring the same frequency controls as the original Gristleizer filter, the TG3 module adds register and resonance controls to the filter circuit. The register control allows you to shift the resonant frequency of the filter core itself, changing the frequency of the loudest output signal. It is also possible to alter the gating of the filters JFET via the TG3’s frequency control.
The filter is capable of self-oscillating due to the resonant control, this allows the TG3 to become a sound source for your modular circuit. Drive and level knobs help control the unpredictable signal level passing through modular filters. The drive control also allows you to make full use of the TG3’s analog components by saturating your sound.
