This design reflects Steven Fryette’s long history of crafting respected tube amplifiers. A 6L6 output section and two 12AX7 valves provide a strong response suited to a wide range of preamps and cabinets.
Stereo operation delivers 50 watts per channel for setups with dual cabs or stereo effects. Switching to bridged mono unlocks 100 watts through Channel A for situations that call for more headroom. This combination of formats keeps the power amp adaptable without complicating the signal chain.
The Presence and Depth controls act across both channels, shaping high-end bite and low-frequency damping. Presence boosts upper frequencies for added clarity, while Depth extends the feel and movement of the low end. These controls allow quick adjustments when cabinets, guitars or playing volumes change. Independent Volume A and Volume B controls further refine balance between channels, helping each preamp voice sit comfortably in the overall mix.
Each channel includes a dedicated standby switch that warms the valves while keeping the output muted during breaks. This feature supports tube longevity and avoids wait times when returning to play. Channel-specific fuses provide clear protection points, and the front-panel power switch makes start-up simple. Dual fan cooling maintains airflow, supporting stable valve performance in tightly packed racks.
A rear mono/stereo selector determines whether both channels run independently or operate as a combined 100-watt output. Inputs and speaker connections are arranged for straightforward routing in either mode.
The upper input handles mono operation or the left side of a stereo source, while the lower input accepts the right channel for full stereo rigs. Impedance selectors and clearly labelled outputs help ensure safe matching with cabinets. This structure keeps the SYN-5050 easy to integrate into modern or legacy rack systems.
