The Dean Mako guitar features a flame maple top, offering good tonal qualities and good sustain. Aesthetically, the flame maple top will stand out due to its beautiful, naturally attractive grain pattern. The flame maple top is accompanied by mahogany back and sides which produces a more focused, woody, punchy mid-range, thick well-defined tone with plenty of depth and complexity that will please most playing styles. Mahogany also contains distinct character of soft warmth, but is well balanced with a bite of its own. The wood is used a lot in the acoustic world, because it is relatively economical, durable, attractive, easy to work with, and resonant.
The Mako's neck is crafted from mahogany which offers durability and great resonance. The reason why many guitar necks are crafted from mahogany is because the wood responds greatly to picking, strumming, and various finger techniques with equal ease. The Dean Mako features D shaped set neck, which ensures a smooth and comfortable playing experience as well as strength and durability. Its slim D shaped neck is ideal for the electric guitarist that craves an acoustic sound but the feel and playability of an electric guitar. The neck is topped with a ebony fingerboard that delivers a very responsive, bright, snappy and crisp attack coupled with a smooth sustain. The neck is has a gloss finish and the fingerboard is sprinkled with Dave Mustaine's custom pearl fingerboard inlays that project its edgy shark-inspired looks.
The Dean Mako features a Florentine cutaway which offers an edgy appearance and enables players to explore with challenging chords. A Florentine cutaway comes into a sharp point, resulting in a horn-like shape. Its a complex design and more labor-intensive to craft than a Venetian because the guitar is originally built as a non-cutaway guitar. The cutaway feature provides access to higher chords and enables players to roam the full length of fingerboard with ease.
The Dean Mako comes equipped with a Fishman Isys+ preamp, making it the ideal guitar for the gigging musician. The Fishman preamp features rotary controls for volume, bass, and treble, enabling players to have full control of their tone. The Fishman Isys+ also has a phase button, a low battery indicator, a separate battery box, and the added convenience of an on-board tuner. The preamp has an easy read LED screen, making it easy to tune up or down in dark venues and environments.
The Dean Mako guitar features shark-inspired theme, offering a unique appearance to match the players personality and musical vibe. These decorative features include a distinctive shark gill-shaped sound-hole, complemented by Dave Mustaine's custom mother of pearl fingerboard makers. Dave Mustaine's signature is situated on the truss rod cover and is part of an stunningly designed headstock. The headstock is graced with Dean's well-known brand logo and features a Mako shark graphic to tie in with its shark theme.
